Thousands of parents and students are expected to descend on the State Capitol’s North Steps tomorrow afternoon, rallying against cuts that could defund hundreds of new charter school seats.

The rally to “Save Our Schools” is set for Thursday, May 7 at 4:30 and is being organized by the Coalition For Every Child.

If you’re wondering why that name sounds familiar it’s because the group was responsible for organizing rallies this week in Bridgeport and New Haven and has recently published ads asking state legislators to reverse cuts to the state’s biennial budget plan.

As regular readers of the blog are probably aware, the state’s Appropriations Committee stripped $20.9 million in funding for charter schools, defunding over 860 seats that were previously included in Gov. Dannel Malloy’s budget plan release in February.

So, here’s the $20.9 million question: Will the members of the state Appropriations Committee actually listen to Connecticut parents – or will it be politics as usual?
