Pastor Carl McCluster of Shiloh Baptist Church in Bridgeport kicked off the three-hour public comments portion of today’s state Board of Education meeting by urging board members to “look beyond the politics, look beyond the rhetoric” and vote to approve the four charter school applications before them.
It appears the state Board has listened!
After seven hours and counting, the state Board unanimously voted, with two abstentions, to approve all four charter school applications: Great Oaks and Capital Prep Harbor School in Bridgeport, Jumoke Academy’s Booker T. Washington School in New Haven and the Bronx School of Excellence in Stamford
These schools will give the 4272 students stuck on waiting lists in Connecticut an incredible opportunity.
I applaud the state Board’s commitment to making sure all Connecticut students have access to quality education.
Will update soon with more information on the state Board’s vote…
