Public Charter School Parents to Hold Rally Before Board Meeting

Bridgeport’s charter school parents have planned a rally and press-conference for 5:45 on Monday, right before the new board’s first organization meeting at 6pm.

The rally is set to take place in front of Aquaculture school, 60 St. Stephen Road.

The purpose of this rally is to ask the newly sworn-in board to work together to “improve the city’s schools and expand educational options for families and students.”

The Bridgeport Eduction Association (BEA) and the Connecticut Education Association(CEA) has also planned a ‘Day of Action’ event prior to the charter school parents rally. The BEA/CEA rally will take place at  5pm, and is apart of a ” National Day of Action,” which is taking place across the country.

In addition to two rallies, the new board will have a lot of other important business to cover at their first meeting; including a discussion on the Parent’s Center lease and Marin and Bryant Schools.

The board voted to move forward with Marin and Bryant School’s expression of interest in the joining the state’s commissioner’s Network at last board meeting. At Monday’s meeting the board will be discussing the school’s referrals for parent and administrative representatives for both school’s turnaround committees.

Here are the agendas for both the organization meeting and the regular board meeting:
