Bridgeport’s Newest Charter Welcomes Community to Online Forum

I wanted to share with my readers an upcoming event, which I think will help community members gain some insight on Bridgeport’s newest public charter school.

Great Oaks Charter School will be holding an online video chat for parents and community members on June 12th, 2014 at 5pm.

One of the school’s founders and the Superintendent of the Great Oaks Foundation, Christina Grant, will be taking questions and answering them live.

According to Grant, the point of this forum is “ to make sure everyone in Bridgeport has an opportunity to ask questions about Bridgeport’s newest public school.”

Great Oaks, which is set to open in the fall with its first class of 100 sixth graders, is based on a model that focuses on support for English Language Learners through intensive tutoring, an extended day and “rigorous classroom instruction.”

All of this is great news for Bridgeport’s large population of struggling ELL students who are in desperate need of better options.

The live chat, which is free and open to all members of the public, will be hosted by the Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now, or ConnCan, through their website at CTEdNews.com.
