Bridgeport’s BOE Approves New Superintendent’s Contract for 1 Year

After deliberating for over 30 minutes in executive session late last night, the Bridgeport Board of Education unanimously approved new interim superintendent Fran Rabinowitz’s $140,000 contract.

The district approved a one-year contract with Rabinowitz, who is set to begin March 3rd.

Rabinowitz’s salary is about $40,000 less than Paul Vallas’ as permanent superintendent, according to the Connecticut Post. [Connecticut Post, 2/11/2014]

Rabinowitz’s salary, however, will be much higher than the 40 percent salary generally offered to retired Connecticut superintendents fill in as interim superintendents.

By approving a full-year contract in the middle of the school year, the board will have ample time to find a permanent replacement.

However, it also likely means Bridgeport schools might be switching superintendents mid-year again.
